These are pics of my '68, "MAXCUDA".
The crate Hemi's weren't available yet, and I've always loved the Max-
Wedges, and when the 340 just wasn't enough anymore... well, it just sorta
happened.
The motor is a 451... a '73 400 block with a '69 440 crank. KB Silvolite
pistons on Eagle rods compress the Torco 110 octane against Stage IV heads (as
delivered from Chrysler, with Max-Wedge ports... those guys think of
everything!!) The intake is a '62 and a couple of new 750 AFB's ride on top.
A tight Coan 8" converter feeds the Torqueflite. Unfortunately, I hurt my
Crower mushroom tappet cam, and had to install a Mopar Performance .590 lift
stick. Probably down 60-80 horsepower, but this thing is still a gas to
drive.
We broke the motor in with just 32 degrees of total timing, and went 11.76
at 115 (through the tailpipes). Also discovered the tires are rubbing on the
wheel housing lips in the lights!
After a little carb tuning, and another 4 degrees of timing, I warmed it up
nicely, found a nice spot of fresh asphalt, and broke the ring and pinion!!!
Anybody got a spare 4.56?
