 rare 1968 383s Coupe

Below are pictures of my 1968 383s Barracuda 4speed Coupe, that I purchased 2 years ago from the original owner. The following story is how I found the car and what I had to do to get it in the condition its in now.  About 12 year's ago a friend of mine who live's in the bay area spotted this car driving down the road on his way to work. After he noticed what it was, he began following her till she arrived home. When he approached her to see if she was interested in selling the car, he got a big surprise. The lady was in her late 60's and a paraplegic. The first words out of her mouth was "(NO), its not for sale". After talking to her for a little while he found out that she was the original owner and her husband bought her the car in 1968 as a birthday gift, and she would never sell the car for it was the only thing she had to remember him by, since he passed away 5 years ago. So for the next 9 years he would see her driving around Redwood City, and occasionaly he would ask if she was ready to sell the car, which was always followed by "(NO), not for sale".

I live in Sacramento and travel often to the bay area to vist my parents, and friends' family. One faithful day while he and I where traveling down Industrial Blvd in Redwood City, we spotted a Barracuda on a side lot of a body shop. Immediately, I stopped and asked the manager of the shop who owned the cuda, he told me one of his employee's was working on it for a friend. As we walked over to look at the car, it started to look familiar. Yes, its the lady's car, now with damage to the right front. I asked if it was for sale and his reply was "maybe, ?". I gave him my phone number, and well, I think you can figure out the rest....

In case your wondering, I bought the car for $1,900.00 and drove it home. After two and a half years of working on the car, it's finally done. All options on this car are original, including the interior. Here's a list of what I've done to the car since I got it:
Replaced right front fender and front valence, new right side grille and marker, pulled motor and replaced rings and bearings, valve job on heads, repainted engine compartment, repainted entire car and had all the chrome replated.

As stated above, the interior is still original and nothing has been replaced. I have the window sticker and the broadcast sheet. If anyone has any questions you can contact me at twister3@jps.net David Penn.
